Herbal Actions:
- Bitter Tonic – Substance that is bitter tasting and stimulates the upper gastrointestinal tract via the bitter -sensitive taste buds of the mouth, by directing interaction with gastrointestinal tissues, or both. Bitters have promoting effects on all compounds of upper digestive function namely the stomach, liver and pancreas. In addition to appetite and digestion they improve general health and immune function.
- Anthelmintic- Substance that kills or assists in the expulsion of intestinal worms.
- Antiparasitic- Substance that reduces platelet aggregation and hence prolongs bleeding time and may prevent thrombos formation.
Indications/Prescribing:
Anorexia, dyspepsia
Conditions involving insufficient flow of gastric or pancreatic enzymes and bile.
Worm infestation
Nematode infestation
Amenorrhea and leukorrhea when resulting in from debility.
Contraindications:
Pregnancy and lactation, hyperacidity
Warning and Precautions:
The recommended dose range must be exceeded.
People with known sensitivity to wormwood or other members of the Compositae family (e.g ragweed, daisies, chrysanthemum) avoid using wormwood.

Use in pregnancy and lactation:
Contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.
Side effects:
None expected if taken with recommended dose range.
Overdose of wormwood has been reported.
Dosage:
0.7 to 3 ml of 1:5 liquid extract daily
Recommended dose 5 to 20 ml liquid extract per week.
The low end of the dose range should be used for bitter effect. Doses at the high end of the dose range are for short -term use only.
